1. Why do I need/want the services of Here to Help of Vail?

The services provided by Here to Help of Vail are designed to put your mind at ease about issues related to your surgery both before and after your operation. Staff members will make all your arrangements for lodging, ground transportation, doctor and medical appointments and physical therapy. Their knowledge and experience enable them to be your advocate and personal assistant during and after your hospital stay. The doctors of the Steadman Hawkins Clinic highly recommend the services of H2HV to their patients.


2. Is Here to Help of Vail connected with the Vail Valley Medical Center and/or the Steadman Hawkins Clinic?

Though not connected in a business sense to either entity, most of our care services and packages have been structured based upon the input and advice from the SHC doctors and staff.


3. Are the services/fees of Here to Help of Vail covered by insurance?

Here to Help of Vail does not submit billings to insurance companies. H2HV will provide you with an invoice upon completion of our services. We accept credit cards or checks for payment of our services.


4. How many days should I plan to stay in Vail for my surgery?

A typical stay in Vail is usually 3 full days. (Day 1 for pre-op appointments, Day 2 for your surgery, Day 3 for first day post-op Dr. appointments, dressing change and your first two physical therapy sessions.) However, each surgery has different requirements and protocols based on the procedure, the physician's recommendations for rehab and the patient's general level of health. We suggest you ask your physician/surgeon for his/her recommendation, so that H2HV can assist you with your arrangements as necessary.


5. What lodging/accommodations are available or recommended?

Here to Help of Vail, the SHC and the VVMC have relationships established with lodging/hotel facilities in Vail. As part of our H2HV services, we will make reservations for you to coordinate with your surgery/medical and travel needs.


6. What is the nearest airport?

The Vail/Eagle airport (EGE) is 45 minutes from Vail. It offers regular commercial flights to many of the nation's major cities. There is also an executive FBO for private and corporate jets. Denver International Airport (DEN) is a two and a half hour drive from Vail.


7. What ground transportation is available?

Here to Help of Vail will make arrangements or provide ground transportation for its clients with a confirmed H2HV reservation. Most of the major car rental companies have desks at the airports as well as satellite offices in Avon, Minturn and Vail. (Before renting a car, ask your doctor about your driving ability following surgery.) For passenger shuttle van services call Colorado Mountain Express CME 1-970-926-9800.


8. Will I need to use crutches or need to wear a sling or a brace after my surgery?

Please ask your physician or surgeon for advice on these issues:

  • Hip arthroscopy - the patient is usually on crutches for a certain period of time based on the surgical procedure. The patient may also be fitted with a protective hip brace following the surgery.
  • Knee arthroscopy - the patient may be on crutches for a period of time determined by the surgeon and the procedure used to treat the problem.
  • Shoulder arthroscopy – the patient may use a sling for a period of time determined by the surgeon and the procedure used to treat the problem.
  • Fractures- the severity of the fracture and surgical or non- surgical treatment will determine the need for a splint, cast, crutches or sling.

9. How long before I can drive a car?

The following factors should be considered before driving a car:

  • Which leg, arm or shoulder is involved?
  • Are you taking any pain meds or other medications that may affect your alertness, reactions and ability to drive?
  • Does the car have an automatic or standard transmission?
  • Can you get into and out of the car easily without affecting your injured limb?
  • The road conditions Be sure to get an OK from your doctor prior to driving!

10. When can I return to work?

There are many factors to consider before returning to work. Ask your doctor for specific restrictions and time frames related to your circumstances.


11. Will I be able to care for myself?

Here to Help of Vail will instruct you in the basics of self care involved in your daily routine: showering, dressing, meals and household chores. You should feel comfortable about your ability to care for yourself when you get home.
